Carpets – they are great aren’t they? Pretty to look at, feel great underfoot and nice and warm. But when they get stained, there is no greater pain than trying to get them restored! Luckily, there are some things you can try that will make the task of cleaning your carpet that little bit easier.
Freshen Those Carpets Up!
There is nothing worse than having carpets that stink. But there are a few things you can do to refresh those piles! All you need is an essential oil of your choosing and some baking soda. Put about 20 drops of oil into your box of baking soda, shake, and allow to infuse – voila – your very own shake deodorant! All you need to do is shake the contents over your carpets, leave for 5 minutes, and vacuum.
Cleaning Specific Spots:
Now, this tip works best for smaller spots. It should be noted that there is no substitute for professional cleaning when it comes to large troublesome areas. And if you need a carpet cleaner in livermore, 580 Carpet Cleaners are your one stop shop! However, for those small spots, you’re gonna need that baking soda again. This time, mix with a little vinegar in a spray bottle. Together, they bubble up on the surface of the carpet, lifting stains and deodorizing. All you need to do is allow to sit, and vacuum away after 30 minutes – simple!
Removing Play Doh:
Anyone with kids will know this pain, especially if your carpet has a thick pile. But this one is easy to deal with. Avoid your first instinct to pull away the offending play doh. What you need to do is allow it to dry. Then, taking a fine tooth comb or a hair brush with stiff bristles, gently brush away at the now dry Play Doh, while having your vacuum running nearby. If there is some staining, you can use your trusty vinegar / baking soda solution to lift the last of the staining away.
Removing Chewing Gum:
Keep that comb handy, you’re gonna need it again! This one is so easy, you’ll kick yourself for not thinking of it. All you need is a little ice. Pop it in a bag, place over the chewing gum, and allow to sit for a few minutes. The chewing gum will harden, allowing you to easily lift it away from your carpet.
You can make a great all purpose solution for stains, using the following:
¼ cup vinegar
¾ cup water
A few drops of dish soap.
Good luck cleaning those carpets!
